Halifax responded and were given a glimmer of hope when the home hooker was red carded for stamping on Danny Mellor.

That, though, just galvanised Thorne as they broke down the blindside to score again.

Halifax hit back with a brilliantly worked driving maul from a lineout, with Olly Wilby crashing over for the score.

However, that was as good as it got for the visitors as Thorne took control - with their giant No 8 and powerful 12 providing them with the platform from which to breakthrough.

There were some bright periods for Halifax, who never gave up. However, they lost to the better side on the day.

Halifax Vandals extended their lead ovwer Hessle at the top of Yorkshire Four from two to three points with a bonus-point win at Mosborough.

Jamie Bloem’s side won 34-19 while Hessle came out on top by 19-14 at Ossett and in-form third-placed Skipton beat Sheffield Oaks 48-8.

Old Rishworthians’ Yorkshire Two game at home to Pontefract was postponed.

Rishies’ Copley pitch is unfit after the floods and they were unable to find an available pitch that was fit for play.
