Siddal hunting another Challenge Cup scalp

Siddal go in search of a second League 1 scalp when they face Rochdale Hornets at Spotland in the Challenge Cup on Sunday (3.0).

Gareth Greenwood’s side were one of a clutch of amateur winners in the last round as they thumped Newcastle Thunder at Chevinedge.

Their task this weekend looks considerably tougher against a side tipped to push for promotion, although Greenwood was not writing his side off.

Rochdale are a proper semi pro team, an established Championship and League 1 club, so in that sense it’s a much more difficult game,” he said.

“On the field they have over there, you know that if they really turn up and we don’t, it’s going to be a long afternoon.

“On the other hand, if we get a full side out and really switch on, I don’t think we’re an average amateur team and we know we can cause teams problems.

“We’ve got at least one bus of supporters going over so we’ll have a good following and everyone’s looking forward to it.”

Siddal could have centre Scott Caley, injured in an off the ball incident against the Thunder, back in contention which would bolster Greenwood’s backline options.

Youngster Ben West featured on the wing in last week’s impressive National Conference win at Kells and could continue in place of the injured Gareth Blackburn.
