Fax sign Wood, more to follow ahead of deadline

Halifax have signed the Huddersfield Giants centre Sam Wood on a loan deal until the end of 2018.

And sources close to the club have told Courier Sport that coach Richard Marshall is likely to sign a second young player from a top flight club ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

Fax are almost certain to be without forwards Adam Tangata (knee) and Shane Grady (foot) for Sunday’s must-win fixture against Rochdale at the Shay (3.0).

And that was enough to prompt Marshall to bolster his resources ahead of an expected Super 8s Qualifiers campaign.

Wood, who made his senior debut in 2016, has made six Super League appearances for Huddersfield this season and has been playing on loan at League 1 Workington.

“Sam comes with a good Super League pedigree,” said Marshall.

“His versatility and utility value to the squad will be invaluable at this crucial time of our season.”

Whether or not Wood - or a potential second signing - figures against Hornets remains to be seen, with Ben Heaton and Sion Jones likely to be in pole position.
