Elland smash Pilkington

Elland boosted their promotion hops in Division Two of the National Conference League with a 22-6 victory in the third versus second battle away to Pilkington Recs.

Karl Fairbank’s side remain three points behind leaders Kells, who won 46-6 at home to bottom side Stanningley.

Elland stamped their authority on the game in the first half, taking a 16-6 interval lead. They then shut out their hosts with scrum half Phil Taylor their star man.

Prop Cayci Pearson had a 14-point haul from two tries and three goals while centre Richard Crawshaw and second row Tom Harnett also touched down.

Fourth-placed Ovenden lost ground on the top two when they suffered a disappointing 24-20 defeat at Leigh East, who had led 12-4 at the interval.

Fullback Luke O’Mara did his best for Ovenden and the fullback got one of the Four Fields side’s four tries. Others came from winger Shaun Smith, player-coach Gareth English and stand off Niall Brady, who kicked two goals.

Premier Division leaders Siddal were without a game and saw their lead cut to two points as West Hull won 22-14 at Lock Lane, who are also among the title contenders.
