HALIFAX LADIES are celebrating one of their most successful seasons for years after a 5-1 win away to Driffield in their last match clinched second place in North Two South East.
They needed to win to have a chance of the runners-up berth and Doncaster seconds’ 2-1 defeat at Thirsk opened the door for them.
Halifax began well, a fantastic through ball from Katie Love finding Kate Walsh, who added a fantastic finish.
Play was end to end with Driffield defying their lowly standing but a fine individual goal from Becca Camp, who ran the length of the field with the ball, made it 2-0 and just before half time Louise Evans added a third from a good short corner strike.
Halifax continued to show why they are near the top of the table, with good defending from Leah Kalter, Nat Tyson, Katie Love and some great forward runs from Regan Midgley. Cassie Barker made several good saves.
Fantastic build up play from Becca Camp and Michael Holroyde paved the way for Kate Walsh to give the Driffield keeper no chance.
A Halifax win wouldn’t have been complete without a goal from top scorer Dani Parker, who got her 32nd of the season after being set up by Kate Walsh.
Driffield scored a deserved goal late on but it was Halifax’s day and the fact that several new and young faces have joined the team this year gives them great hope for the future.
