A 5-4 opening day defeat to the eventual winners proved costly for the white rose county, who went on to beat Surrey 6-3 and Warwickshire 5-4.

Halifax-born Marsh, who has played at Lightcliffe and Elland before joining Huddersfield GC this year, lost his opening foursomes match partnering William Whiteoak.

However, the English Amateur Champion then reeled off three singles victories as well as partnering Whiteoak to a win and a half.

Meltham’s Bower had two wins from his six matches.
