Handsome wins for Ovenden and Irish

Ovenden West Riding were convincing 7-1 victors against Littletown while Irish walloped hosts Tyersal 10-4 in Bradford.

Ovenden are third and Halifax Irish Club are fifth in the Premier Division.

There were blizzard conditions for some of the game at Natty Lane, Illingworth but that did not interfere too much with West Riding’s flowing attacks instigated by Scott Eastwood and Glyn Beale.

Beale found the net in the 15th minute when he weaved his way into the Littletown penalty area to beat Mike Smith from 10 yards.

Five minutes later Jordan Coduri cashed in on good work by Eastwood and George Bamforth to add a second from close range,

Littletown’s over worked defence was breached again on the half hour mark when a superb Martin Woodhouse cross resulted in Bamforth making it 3-0.

After the break Littletown strived for some consolation through the efforts of George Porter and Joe Jagger but West Riding soon added a fourth when Eastwood coolly slotted a 10-yarder past Smith on the hour mark.

West Riding missed a host of chances through Eastwood, Bamforth and Beale before Beale added a fifth on 65 minutes.

Soon after Eastwood made it six with the Littletown defence all at sea.

On 80 minutes Bamforth atoned for his earlier misses with number seven.

Leo McKeown scored a consolation goal for shell shocked Littletown in the last minute.

Sam Waller and Sam Hiley both scored hat-tricks for Irish against Tyersal.

The visitors were 3-0 up at the break against their next-to-bottom opponents and the goals flowed at both ends in the second half.

Irish’s other goals came from Mat Jones (two), Ben Hiley and Gareth Jones.

Elland side Huddersfield Amateur and Altofts fought out a 2-2 draw in their West Yorkshire League top of the table clash in atrocious conditions at Old Earth.

The first half was a real stalemate with free flowing football at a premium, defences on top and players finding that they had little time on the ball.

Altofts took the lead, only for Division Two’s leading marksman Matty Parker to even things up with a well taken goal.

With 15 minutes to go Altofts thought they had won the game when they regained the lead but Amateur were not to be denied and substitute Jonny Crowther headed home a fine cross from the dangerous Sam Halstead.

A draw was a fair reflection of the match and keeps the sides second and third in the table, Amateur one point behind their rivals from two games fewer.
