The Shaymen were without eight senior players for Tuesday night's 2-1 home win over Hartlepool, including Evans, who is Cooper says unlikely to be available for Saturday's game at York.

"He came on on Saturday and in the first tackle he's got a heavy impact on his ankle," said the Town coach.

"He's had a scan and we're awaiting the results before we get a diagnosis.

"The initial thought was that he was OK to continue but he's struggled since.

"It's another blow."

The player most likely to come off Town's injury list seems to be defender Tylor Golden, who has been out with a knee problem.

"He's progressing well," Cooper said. "It wasn't worth risking him but he got more legs in his minutes before the game in terms of running and change of direction work.

"I'd expect he'll join in with the group later this week and then we'll decide if he can be made available for selection."

Midfielder Luke Summerfield is out with a back injury, but has been out running and doing gym sessions.

Town are awaiting a further assessment but it will be looked at whether he could get back out on the grass this week.

On the absence of Jamie Cooke, Cooper said: "He's had a minor setback in his rehab and he won't be in contention for Saturday.

"Nothing major but I think he was feeling some discomfort when he came back into training."

Striker Rob Harker's protective boot has now come off and he has been back in the gym.

"There were no issues with the second scan, the fracture's healed so he'll now start the second phase of his rehab, and will hopefully be out of the gym and back onto the grass, even if it's just slowly building up before rejoining the main group," Cooper said.

On defender Festus Arthur, Cooper said: "He joined in the initial bits of training, just the warm-up and small boxes we do at the beginning of training, so he's progressing as expected."

Town's squad was very stretched on Tuesday, with back-up keeper Tom Scott among the substitutes in place of Evans.

"We'll take stock in terms of where we are with injuries and then we'll decide if we need to get cover or need to explore any further options because we're mindful that we've got Saturday but then there's a self-inflicted break," Cooper said when asked whether Town would look to bring in a new player.

"So we need to assess where everybody's at and then a decision will be made whether we need to bring anyone else in."

Cooper said Town wouldn't rule out going into the loan market "if the right person was out there and we felt they could contribute and we were light in that area of the pitch due to injuries".

"But I wouldn't have thought we'd be bringing anyone in if it wasn't based around the injuries at the moment," he added.
