VIDEO: Runway 2016 - Natasha's title makes 2016 even more special

Natasha Maude walked off with the Runway 2016 title in front of three of her biggest fans - mum Samantha Hewitt, gran Sylvia Hodgson and great gran Nancy Crabtree.

And winning the competition crowned a fairytale year for the 22-year-old hair stylist who has worked at Monroe’s Hair in Powell Street, Halifax for five years.

Only a matter of weeks ago Natasha’s fiance of seven years, Jamie Wadsworth, proposed to her at the top of the Orlando Eye while on holiday in Florida.

“I’ve had a great time and made some lovely new friends,” said Natasha.

“I never imagined I would win. One of the other girls was called Natasha and when the winner’s name started being read out I thought she had won.”

Nine young women aged from 15 to 22 took part in a catwalk event going through seven changes of designer clothes from Harveys’ brand new Spring and Summer collections including White Stuff, Seasalt, Phase Eight, Wallis, Masai, Sahara, Juniper, Betty Barclay, Tivoli and Gerry Weber.

They were watched by an audience of more than 100 on the women’s fashion floor of Harveys.

Judges for the event were Bernadette Gledhill, principal of Morton Gledhill - The Fashion Team, Tony Murray, general manager at Harveys, Sue Harvey, co-owner of the department store and Tim Worsnop of the Courier.

“We had a terrific entry this year,” said Bernadette.

“And choosing a winner was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make in the four years we have run this competition.

“But I think we have a wonderful winner in Natasha and I look forward to working with her in the future.”

As part of her prize Natasha, who lives in Pye Nest and went to school at Ryburn Valley High, receives an “Introduction to Modelling Course” from Morton Gledhill.

She also wins £250 in vouchers to spend at Harveys and will take part in a professional photoshoot with a Courier photographer to help start a portfolio.

The girls received only an hour’s tuition the previous evening before striding out onto the catwalk.

“Everyone was really impressed with the girls,” said Tony Murray. “They learned so much in such a short time and with each change of clothes you could see their confidence growing.”

The girls were joined by last year’s winner Chloe Lockley-Middleton, who is now taking on modelling assignments for Morton Gledhill.

“I’d never done any modelling before,” said Natasha. “But I’m really looking forward to the course and learning

more.”
