It was hosted in the National Children’s Museum’s grounds today (Wednesday), and received a warm reception from children and parents alike.

Playday is the national day for play in the UK, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August. On Playday, thousands of children and their families get out to play at hundreds of community events across the UK. As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.

Here in Calderdale the free activities were enjoyed by hundreds of local families, included fun sessions with storytellers Gacko and Ian Douglas, giant sound sculptures created by artist Ben Gates, and the team from Eureka! ran a range of family activities including den-building and hat-making.

Calderdale Council’s Play Development Service ran activities including circus skills, go-karting, face painting and a challenging assault course. The team from Mixenden Play Service brought their climbing wall and mountain bikes and The Guide Dog Association brought along a few of their furry friends with their Mobile Guide Dog Sensory Unit.
