Record-breakers to run through Calderdale

Calderdale residents will have the chance to help record-breaking ultra runners carry a '˜torch for peace' on the fourth day of the nationwide Run4Peace 2016

The relay torch was first lit and carried 500 miles across Kenya’s conflict-affected North Rift Valley last year during a ‘Walk for Peace’ by some of the World’s top athletes.

Runners will be able to join Adam Holland and Rob Young, know as ‘Marathon Man UK’ as the torh goes on its leg from Huddersfield to Leeds.

It’s very important that we bring stability to the area and also bring peace, not only to Kenya, but worldwide,” said Rob Young.

Rob Young has claimed the World record for the most marathons in a year (370) and the longest run without sleep (373.75 miles) while Adam Holland, a previous holder of the World record for the fastest ten marathons in ten days, aims to reclaim it later this year.

People can sign up to take part via an interactive map showing the route of the relay. There are 100 spaces for runners to join the pair each day, from 21-30 October (ten spaces per 10km run).

All sponsorship raised by participants will go to help UK-based charity the Aegis Trust to establish a school for peace in Northern Kenya, where ethnic violence has left more than 600 dead and driven over 435,000 from their homes since 2014.
