Counting is underway in Halifax, with the results expected to come in throughout the morning into the mid-afternoon.

Voters in Calderdale went to the polls yesterday (Thursday) to choose which councillor they want representing their area.

This year 76 candidates from across five parties and some independents are contesting 17 seats that are up for election.

Last year, Labour retained overall control of Calderdale Council. Labour had 28 seats, the Conservatives had 15, the Liberal Democrats had six, there was one Green Party councillor and and one Independent.

We will be bringing you the results of all 17 areas across Calderdale, including Brighouse, Calder, Elland, Greenland and Stainland, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, Illingworth and Mixenden, Luddenden Foot, Northowram and Shelf, Ovenden, Park, Rastrick, Ryburn, Skircoat, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden, Town, and Warley.

LIVE: Calderdale local elections 2023

That is the end of the results for the local elections in Calderdale 2023.

Labour have maintained 10 seats: Ovenden, Town, Luddenfoot, Illingworth and Mixenden, Sowerby Bridge, Skircoat, Todmorden, Elland, Park and Calder.

The Conservatives have maintained four seats: Ryburn, Rastrick, Brighouse, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe.

The Liberal Democrats have maintained two seats: Greetland & Stainland and Warley.

Green have gained one seat from an independent councillor in Northowram and Shelf.

Councillor Israr Ahmed has been elected for Calder, maintaining the Labour seat.

Dave Young did not return to contest his seat.

Turnout: 48%

Labour Councillor Rahat Ullah Khan has maintained the Labour seat in Park.

Faisal Shoukat did not return to contest his seat.

Turnout: 32.7%

Labour maintain Council

Labour has maintained its control over the Council.

Labour Councillor David William Veitch has maintained his seat for Elland.

Turnout: 31.2%

Hipperholme and Lightcliffe

Conservative Councillor David Eric Kirton has maintained his seat in Hipperholme and Lightcliffe.

Turnout: 35.1%

Labour Councillor Silvia Clare Dacre has maintained her seat for Todmorden.

Turnout: 34.9%

Councillor Brenda Monteith (Conservative) has maintained her seat for Brighouse.

Turnout: 36.43%

Councillor Chris Pillai has maintained his Conservative seat for Rastrick.

Turnout: 35.5%

Green gain in Northowram and Shelf

Councillor Dan Wood (Green) has gained his seat in Northowram and Shelf. It is the first gain in the election in Calderdale, so far.

The seat was held by Roger Taylor (Independent) who did not contest his seat this time.

Turnout: 39.2%
