Hebden Bridge gallery, Northlight Art Studio, hosted a virtual exhibition night, highlighting the wide range of talented creatives on our doorstep.

The event was held on the weekend of the cancelled annual Hebden Bridge Open Studios event, in a bid to help promote local artists, many of whom have suffered a loss of income due to the coronavirus crisis.

A total of eighteen artists showcased their work and held talks on art and culture in Calderdale.

Spokesperson and artist Fiona Armer said: “Galleries are just beginning to re-open now, but most of us still have work trapped in lockdown exhibitions all over the country.

“Times are tough for everyone in these strange times, but I don’t think there’s a single artist or maker in Calderdale that hasn’t suffered a significant drop in income.

“We decided to have a go at doing our own Northlight Virtual Open Studios. To say it was a steep learning curve for all concerned is a vast understatement!

“After several weeks of sweat and tears and lots of helping each other out, 18 of the Northlight studio holders each made a video that’s been shared online. Some also hosted live chats. We all responded to comments, added photos and other videos and generally lived online for two days over Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5.”
