Michelle Blakey, 53, is selling the woollen dolls to raise funds for the residents of Woodfield Grange Care Home, on Saddleworth Road, Greetland, where her mother Cynthia used to live before she died aged 88 on June 23 last year.

She hopes that the dolls, priced at £3 each, will make money to fund new activities for the residents to enjoy together.

Having recently started as a volunteer at Woodfield Grange, Ms Blakely said that she’s 'happy to do whatever she can' to help staff and residents.

She said: “During the years my mum was living at Woodfield Grange, I made a real connection with the staff and residents here.

“I love to knit, so I thought the NHS dolls would be a good project and I’ve sold 24 already. I’m glad people like them and that we’re able to raise funds for the home.

“Mum had a very happy life at Woodfield Grange before she passed away and it’s my pleasure to give something back to the wonderful team who looked after her.”

Ms Blakely’s nurse dolls come with knitted hot water bottles and flowers, while the paramedics are in their green uniforms with NHS badges.

Home Manager Lynn Hart said that Michelle’s kind gesture touched everyone at Woodfield Grange.

Lynn said: “We love Michelle’s dolls, she’s a brilliant knitter and a wonderful volunteer.

“She plays a big role in residents’ lives already as she comes in to help out our Activity Co-ordinator. The residents love chatting to her, and sometimes she’ll even do the tea round too!

“Her kindness and generosity are wonderful. We’re so glad she’s still such a big part of the Woodfield Grange family.”
