Brighouse gripped with 1940’s fever

Organisers and businesses in the town have thrown themselves into the wartime community spirit wearing uniforms and fashion from the era.

The town centre is packed full of displays, performances, a vintage market and model vehicles.

A new addition to today’s proceedings is that a military parade will take place at 3pm and crowds are expected to grow throughout the day.

During the Brighouse 1940’s weekend there will be performances on the street by singers such as Natasha and Paul Harper, Katie Spitfire and Pete Jones and speeches from Winston Churchill.

In the Civic hall there will be “Evacuees” a play by Lightcliffe CofE School and ‘Back Step Boogie Club’ Dance lessons.

The big event tonight is the Variety show at the Civic Hall.

The day events continue all day Sunday, with the addition of an exclusive spitfire flyover from Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 3pm weather permitting.
