Brighouse designer flushed with pride after breaking Guinness record for world’s fastest toilet

Brighouse inventor Trevor Duckworth has been racing and building machines from his garden shed for more than 50 years - in which time he has broken 21 world records and 28 British national records.

Today, the inventive 69-year-old faced no blockages as he smashed the world record today in Elvington, York, with the world’s fastest toilet - travelling at 70.9miles per hour.

The previous world record was 50mph; set in Australia.

Mr Duckworth previously said he wanted to break a world record with a “wacky and zany” design.

The toilet, collaborated on with Paul Cumpstone, was designed to be a fully functional toilet as well as featuring an accelerator, brake pedals and throttle.

Speaking after breaking the record, Mr Duckworth said: “We’re delighted. It’s what we set out to do. We thought we would do it.

“The ulitmate is to achieve 100mph - we’ll have to do a lot of work to get there - but we’ll do it.”
