Adorable animals take centre stage

Children look at newborn lambs in the lambing shed

The lambing shed was proved the busiest place during the visit with 270 sheep preparing to give birth. Visitors to the Walsden farm helped with general tasks such as feeding and bedding the animals and some were even able to help with preparing the lambs and their mothers for life outside the shed after the birth. Those lucky were able to see an actual birth and watch how the new mums care for their new lambs.

The hens also proved to be a very popular attraction. This is the first year visitors were able to feed them and collect their eggs. The flock consists of brown leghorns and marans, with hope of introducintg moew breeds.

The Farm runs several events throughout the rest of the academic year, including pond-dipping sessions, mini-beast safaris, mapping activities and flower hunts.

All the visits to Ramsden farm are free of charge to schools and organisations as the events are sponsored by Natural England.
