The painting, valued at £85, by Julia Odgen was stolen from the wall of the Heart Gallery at around 4pm.

Alison Bartram, owner of the Heart Gallery, said: “We weren’t really busy when it happened so I’m sure someone must have seen something.

“We are very saddened by this incident as it has never happened before and also quite angry that someone feels that this is an acceptable thing to do. It’s even more upsetting when the artist is a local one trying heard to get her work seen by a wider audience by showcasing it in Heart Gallery.

“I want to make other local businesses more aware and ask them to keep a keen eye open as I do feel that no-one is safe with this type of theft happening right under our noses.”

The gallery is now looking at installing a new CCTV system in that room to prevent any further incidents.

Anyone with information can contact the gallery on 0144 845845.
