Letter: Why are people not obeying the face mask law?

Linda Mort from Halifax is asking why the law on face masks is not being enforced.

Why is the government making it a law that masks/face coverings are to be utilised in all indoor areas but then not enforcing the law?

On a recent visit to Asda no-one was on the door stopping people from entering without masks. I cannot comment on other supermarkets as I have not been in them since the new ruling.

I came across many members of the public not wearing face coverings and still not social distancing whilst in the store.

The same goes for people in town. They are not social distancing. The virus is spreading in Calderdale and people don’t care.

There are people caring for loved ones with dementia trying to make them understand about face coverings and social distancing to try to keep them safe but others put them in danger by not adhering to the law.

Why, for heaven’s sake, is the law not being obeyed for the safety and welfare of us all and why can it not be enforced?

The public should be stopped from entering buildings if they don’t wear a face covering unless they have proof of exemption.
