Open day to seek RSPCA volunteers

A volunteer open day will take place at the RSPCA charity shop in Halifax to encourage more people to help out the organisation.

The Committed to the Cause drop-in event is between 11am and 1pm on Saturday, February 6 and will offer visitors a a chance to learn about the volunteering opportunities available, from working with animals to retail and events.

There will be an update on some of the animals the charity has helped over the past year, refreshments will be available and existing volunteers have also been invited to come along and share their experiences.

Kath Airey, currently honorary treasurer with the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and District Branch, said: “My role with the branch is totally voluntary, although I am sure many people think I am paid as I am usually at all the RSPCA events.

“Over the years I have met many people and made many friends through volunteering, plus it’s a rewarding experience knowing that I am helping the animals in our care, many of which have been ill-treated or neglected.”

Fitness fanatics will pedal for pups and cycle for cats by taking part in a fundraising spin class at the DW Fitness Club in Huddersfield to raise money for the RSPCA animal centre in Halifax.

Lauren Moore, RSPCA community fundraiser, said: “It costs just £5 to register and we hope that those taking part will raise additional sponsorship, which will all go to support the care and welfare of the animals at the RSPCA animal centre, so it’s a great way to start of the year.”

There will also be a Furry Friends open day at the animal centre in Halifax on May 8, while Manor Heath Park in Halifax will host an RSPCA K9 Party in the Park on July 3.
