Deliberate skip fire started in centre of Halifax

A “deliberate” skip fire was started in Halifax centre in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Staff from Halifax Fire Station attended the incident on Powell Street after 12.11am.

The blazing skip was filled mainly with wood, some of which had to be removed before the “deep-seated” fire could be extinguished, said watch commander Adrian Bairstow.

“Looking at the contents of the skip I would say it was delibrate,” he said.

The crew tackled the fire for around 45 minutes before it was extinguished.
