Chief Inspector Steve Thomas, of Calderdale Police, said: “By securing your vehicle’s registration plate you are making life very much more difficult for thieves.

“It doesn’t take very long to fix the screws but they are very effective.

“And the stickers have been proven to help deter thieves as well, for examples those that tradespeople can stick to their vans saying that “no tools are left overnight.”

“A thief is far less likely to break into a vehicle if there is nothing there for them to take.

“Crime prevention advice helps to make a difference - so far in the Calderdale District there has been a 16 per cent reduction in fuel thefts compared to the same period last year.

“We will do what we can but we ask people to follow simple preventative advice and that is what these sessions are all about.”
