That’s the message from Mytholmroyd Community Association as the community centre, which reopened last month, bounces back from the Boxing Day floods.

Big plans to remodel the centre at Caldene Avenue, Mytholmroyd, to include the much-fought for swimming pool are now gathering pace, but the association is encouraging people to make use of the facilities the centre can already offer.

They include the sports hall, squash courts, which have been fitted out with brand new flooring, a weight lifting room, a meeting room and the Gloucester Room, which can be hired out on evenings and weekends.

It’s hoped that as many people as possible will make use of the facilities so the association can cover the running costs of the centre from those alone.

Roger Osborne, a member of the association, said of the plans: “It is going to take a little while, but it’s really positive and the plans are beginning to move forward at a pace.

“We are now looking forward, rather than back at the floods.

“We are open for business.”

A number of activities already run at the centre, including Karate, Taekwondo and keep fit classes, but the association would like to see even more use of the centre.

Mr Osborne added: “We are feeling positive - we have a great team on the job and we feel very optimistic.”
