Bomb disposal staff called to Brighouse after device is found in garage

Bomb disposal experts were called out to Brighouse after a World War Two mortar detonator was discover in a resident’s garage.

Police were called to the house in Woodhouse Lane at 4.13pm yesterday (Wednesday) and immediately sought the advice of army explosive experts.

After confirming the device was not live, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) came out this morning to carry out a controlled explosion.

Nobody was injured.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 4.13pm yesterday, police were called to a house in Woodhouse Lane, Brighouse, after what was believed to be a World War 2 Mortar Detonator was found in a garage.

“Photographs of the eight inch tall device were sent to EOD, who confirmed it was not live and would be suitable to remain where it was overnight.

“EOD staff attended this morning to collect the device and took it away to a nearby location, where a controlled explosion was carried out.”
