Back in class four months after deluge

The school was left under water following the disaster and Year 1 pupils had been taught in a temporary classroom at Stubbings Infant School since January.

But they have now returned to their classroom and a completely refurbished foundation classroom for nursery and reception children has been opened.

Jenny Melling, executive head teacher at the school, said: “It was really lovely to welcome all the children back and they were all really happy to be back.

“Staff from both schools rallied to get everything together, with support from families as well.

“It was an unsettling time, particularly for those who had been affected at home, but the children have been very resilient.

“Seeing the impact of the flood on the school was horrific, when you walked into the rooms it was like they had been turned upside down.”

There’s still some refurbishment work to be done and the school has also taken some measures to ensure that if floods hit again, the impact will be minimised.
