The Calderdale area scores highly in government statistics on apprenticeship take-up rates, with 86.9 per cent of 16-18 year-olds in the district participating in education or training, well above the national and regional averages.
By law, teenagers must now stay in full-time education or undertake an apprenticeship of training placement until their 18th birthday.
The council’s Cabinet member for children and young people Coun Megan Swift is encouraging school and college leavers to visit the careers event and find out about the opportunities available to them across a number of sectors.

“This event will allow young people to potentially meet their future employer, and learn more about what being an apprentice is like. There’ll be plenty of useful information available as well as the chance to meet people who have already gone through the apprenticeship schemes, helping to give a real insight into what being an apprentice involves.”
