The Salterhebble Primary student initially set out to raise £50, but has smashed his target , by raising a whopping £1,000 for the hospice by cycling 26.2 miles over 21 days.

As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, the hospice was forced to cancel its upcoming fundraising events during the busy Spring/Summer fundraising period and close all of its fourteen charity shops in the region.

Despite losing two major sources of income, in order to keep their doors open, the charity still needs to find a staggering £11,600 every single day.

Frankie’s mum Becky, who runs ‘Le Munch Bunch’ sandwich shop in Halifax, is also an avid fundraiser for the hospice. Last year she raised over £900 for Overgate by doing the Great North Run.

“I’m just rally proud of him. I’m absolutely chuffed that he’s come forward to me saying he wants to do something to help Overgate.

“For months he was talking about wanting to do a bun sale, but I told him it would have to wait until the warmer months and then lockdown happened.”

“The daily bike ride has really helped during lockdown, it has given Frankie something to look forward to everyday.

“I’m really glad we’ve had good weather, so I have been able to get him outside and moving and not just cooped up all day, everyday.”

Jess Bailey, Events Fundraiser for Overgate said: “26.6 miles on a bike is a very long way for Frankie’s little legs to peddle, but with the support of his family I have no doubt he will smash the distance.

“The amount Frankie has raised just goes to show the support he has. Team Overgate is behind him all the way, cheering him on.”
