Now people who gained educational experience at the college are inviting others to share their memories at an event tomorrow (Saturday) at Halifax Central Library (1pm to 3pm).

Pauline Nugent, Pecket Learning Community Oral History and Archive Project Coordinator, said changes in funding trends coupled with ongoing changes in education policy had led to the planned closure.

She said: “We are trying to make links with new young people struggling with their education so they can be inspired by the Pecket story and hopefully carry on the work in their own way in the future.

“It wasn’t at all like any conventional college. As the charity closes it will try to pass on any physical assets to another group with similar aims.

“The oral history and archiving is proving cathartic and we are delighted that West Yorkshire Archive Service are going to take in our physical archives. So it’s not all sad news. We have also had very positive feedback from our website and will continue to add archive film and audio as well as other digital archives.”

Everyone is welcome to visit the library and find out more - or visit www.pecket.org for details.
