The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Founadtion Trust have celebrated the landmark of their 20,000th Covid-19 vaccination.

The vaccination programme started on December 30 and has involved specially-recruited teams at both Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital with some staff coming in out of retirement or when they should have been on annual leave to help out.

Vaccinations have been taking place seven days a week from 7am to 8.30pm including New Years Day to give everyone the chance to have theirs done.

Doctors and pharmacists have been on hand at each session and there has been great feedback reported about the service and how reassuring staff were.

The vaccination programme has been working through priority groups and so far have vaccinated frontline health and social care workers, nursing and residential home workers and is now vaccinating the clinically vulnerable/those shielding.

Programme lead, Mel Addy, said: “This has been amazing achievement everyone in both our teams.

“To be part of the vaccination rollout locally for our communities keep everyone protected and safe is something we at the trust are very proud of.”
