Mr Yasar's close friend Hajra Ilyas, 22, said: "The school is not thinking of what is best for the students, they love Yasar. He does so much good in the community and put so much extra in to his work. The community will stand by him."

A family friend of Mr Yasar, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "Yasar is a really good man and the fact that so many of his students are protesting is proof. Yasar is all about peace and love - he means so much to the children that they've all come out together. His suspension is having a big impact on the Halifax community, children and adults alike."

Police arrived at the school at approximately 12:10 and temporarily cordoned off part of Gibbet Street, between the West View Avenue and West View Drive junctions. The road is no longer cordoned off.

One resident said: "I'm with the children."

Another commented: "I'm worried about the mess that's been caused, who is going to clean up the eggs?"
