The funding pledge, announced at The Shay, Halifax, is a preventative measure to ensure safe care for patients after recent national failings, said Trust chairman Andrew Haigh.

The money is enough to pay for around 70 new nursing staff, according to the Trust.

The Trust recently received a ‘full compliance’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

Mr Haigh said: “This is something we are proud of - but not complacent about - as it informs our patients that our care is up to standard.”

At the annual meeting, he thanked the staff who are “the beating heart of the Trust” in ‘another year of success in health care’.
