Parenting, porn and a sense of failure ...

Exploring porn, parenting and pressure, the play is based on her own family’s experience of trying to talk about the taboo. It tells the true story of an 11-year-old boy’s experience of stumbling across brutal pornography. This very personal account, written and performed by his mother, shines a light on the extraordinary public and media response to a blog post she wrote about the experience.

She aimed to reach out and make sense of what felt like a monumental failure as a parent. Punching the Sky combines live performance with animation and an original score.

It explores the complexities of our relationship with online pornography, the dangers and redemptive qualities of the Internet, the power of the media and the contradictory nature of our feelings about sex, censorship and parenthood.

lLizi Patch is a writer, director and performer of 30 years. Alongside developing her own work, she also writes for Radio 4 and is Artistic Director of the City Varieties and Leeds Grand Youth Theatre, Leeds.

Co-director Mark Hollander has worked in the arts for over 30 years as a theatre executive director, arts development specialist, director and performer.
