A Brighouse celebration of music will be held at the Central Methodist Church on Saturday, November 22.

The concert will feature the James Shepherd Versatile Brass.

The man who conceived the idea of forming the James Shepherd Versatile Brass in 1972 is known for his tremendously successful period as principal cornet with Black Dyke Mills Band prior to 1972, and his even more illustrious years as leader of Versatile Brass since then.

The concert will include popular opera classics by three soloists.

Paul Holroyd is a virtuoso tenor, performing the classic opera solos to the modern stage musical roles from Tosca to Les Miserables. He will add strength to the concert with his tenor voice in duets and solos during the evening.

Alla Shumova, international, classically trained contralto from St Petersburg, Russia is sure to add excitement to the concert when she gives us a taste of her homeland music.

Brighouse’s Rachel Harrison has brought together this group of musicians to create a concert that Brighouse can be proud of.

She has toured extensively with St Salvator’s Chapel Choir performing in Prague, Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Budapest and Madrid and has performed before HRH Prince William and at a concert for the United Nations Heads of State and now at Brighouse, with a programme that extends from Carmen by Bizet to Mozart’s “Queen of the Night” from the Magic Flute and Les Miserables.

Versatile Brass will be playing and accompanying the soloists making this a concert not to be missed and a landmark event for Brighouse.

Alla and Rachel will sing the “Flower Duet” by Delibes and Paul will give a rendition of “E Lucevan le Stelle” from Tosca.

The programme has been compiled by the artists which includes music by Puccini, Bizet and Donizetti. These pieces are complimented by songs and music by Gershwin, Weatherly, Morricone and Boublil and Schonberg. “Danny Boy”, “Summertime” and “I’ve got Rhythm”.

The finale has been specially arranged by Kevin Holdgate featuring show stoppers from Phantom and Les Miserables.

The Brighouse Celebration of Music is sponsored by members of the Brighouse Business Initiative as part of the Victorian Christmas Festival. Tickets are available at Harrison Lord, Ryecorn Wholefoods Ltd and Simply Flowers.
