He’s one of the hardest-working performers in modern music and a favourite with Brighouse audiences who ensure that his New Year gigs regularly sell out.

And New Year 2014 is no exception for the Sheffield singer-songwriter Paul Carrack as all tickets for his January 4 appearance at the Ritz Ballroom have been snapped up by eager fans.

Called ‘the man with the golden voice’ in a recent BBC documentary, Paul is back at the Ritz for his 25th show. He will perform some of his best-known hits including ‘Over My Shoulder’ and ‘Eyes of Blue’.

Paul, who is celebrating more than five decades in the music business, has a new single ‘That’s All That Matters To Me’ - dedicated to his globe-trotting daughter Merri - to his name as well as new album ‘Rain Or Shine’, packed with his new songs and classic interpretations of familiar numbers.

Paul was the voice behind Ace’s huge hit ‘How Long’, Squeeze’s ‘Tempted’ and ‘The Living Years’ with Mike and the Mechanics. After initially finding fame with Ace and Roxy Music, he has gone on to enjoy a successful solo career that spans 40 years.

He has made guest appearances with Diana Ross, the Eagles, Tom Jones, Michael McDonald and Jools Holland and his love of performing live shows no signs of diminishing.

“I really enjoy performing out there with the band - there’s the satisfaction of doing a good gig and seeing all the smiling faces of the audience.

“I want to keep on producing new things in the studio, however you don’t get the instant gratification that a live audience gives you.”

Paul has been on tour with his new set since October and, after a break over Christmas, he will be back on the road until Easter 2014.

Earlier this year, he toured the US, UK and Europe as a member of Eric Clapton’s band and one of the busiest men on the music scene will be back on tour again to the Far East in February and March 2014.

l Also certain to go down well with Ritz audiences next year are gigs by the Rolling Stones tribute band The Stones on Friday, January 24 at 8pm.

On February 14 the Rod Stewart Experience will provide some Valentine’s romance, also at 8pm.
