The sound of the blues will be showcased in Brighouse as a radio show and the Millers Bar join forces for a free festival.
In conjunction with the highly acclaimed Blues and Soul Show, The Millers Bar in Brighouse will be holding an all day, free admission, canalside event with five of Yorkshire’s finest Blues acts, accompanied by barbecued food on Bank Holiday Saturday, May 2.
Under the heading of “Blues, Booze and BBQs”, the festival-goers will be entertained by Yorkshire acts Half Deaf Clatch, Crosscut Saw, Poorboy, The Tom Gee Band and The Paddy Maguire Band, with live music from early afternoon until late in the evening.
“We are delighted to link up with the Blues and Soul Show for this wonderful all day festival,” said Millers Bar Entertainments Manager, Lianne Brown.
“It’s the ideal way to kick-off a summer of great live events at our venue, especially highlighting the Blues and Soul Show gigs we’ll be holding on the first Friday of every month until October.
“We’re also very proud to be flying the flag for Yorkshire, as all of the bands come from our region.
“We’re newcomers to the Brighouse community so we hope to see all of our neighbours there.”
All over the world, barbecues are widely acknowledged as the perfect culinary partner to blues music, so the Millers Bar team will keep the grills fired up all day, sizzling with both meat and vegetarian options. Music lovers are advised to arrive hungry.
The running order for the festival is:
2.30pm - Half Deaf Clatch
4pm - Crosscut Saw
6pm - Poorboy
8pm - Tom Gee Band
10pm - Paddy Maguire Band
The event will kick-off a series of six gigs. The first will be an all-day mini festival with five bands to launch the season, and then there will be an evening gig on the first Friday of every month into the autumn.
The Blues and Soul Show is recorded in Hebden Bridge and broadcast by six radio stations in six countries on three continents, including Radio Phoenix in Halifax.
Since opening last year The Millers, formerly the Black Swan at Anchor Bridge, has been developing the venue to provide regular live music and food festivals, as well as being integral and at the heart of Brighouse’s and Rokt’s current event offering.
