With more than 40 musicians, Halifax Concert Band, conducted by Christopher Binns, returns to Square Chapel arts centre, Halifax, on Saturday, December 5 for the first in a series of Christmas concerts.

The popular annual concert will feature a mixture of seasonal music and pieces from the band’s recent repertoire. The programme will feature Leroy Anderson’s ‘A Christmas Festival’ and ‘Sleigh Ride’, Prokofieff’s ‘Troika’, and Philip Sparke’s ‘A Medieval Christmas’.

Music showcasing favourite items from recent concerts will include ‘The Prayer’, ‘A Welsh Rhapsody’, ‘Choral and Rock-Out’ and ‘Cheek to Cheek’.

A regular highlight of the concert is a performance by Halifax Concert Band Ladies Choir, conducted by Ann Bartholomew. This year the choir will sing ‘But I Give My Song’, written by musical director Christopher Binns.

He said: “In addition to the wide range of music, the band always provides additional seasonal fun and entertainment for all the family.”

Halifax Concert Band will also be in action at other venues in Calderdale, including King’s Church, Park Road, Halifax, in the run-up to Christmas.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
