A Brighouse author is delighted to introduce his debut novel.
Featuring phone hacking, celebrity scandal and and reality television, James McCann’s #spotted is a rollicking ride exploring the darker side of celebrity culture.
Set in the enticing world of showbusiness, the novel tells the story of Alex Gaines, a cruise ship entertainer whose career starts to set sail after his life suddenly hits the rocks.
In a journey to rival that of an X Factor contestant, Alex struggles to adjust to the pitfalls of his newly found fame.
James, who lives in Brighouse with his wife and two daughters, said: “The novel was written to be a funny, entertaining satire on celebrity culture.
“When I was in the writing process, the phone hacking scandal kicked off and that really wormed its way into the book.
“It’s topical, fast-paced and good fun. The opening of the book is also semi-autobiographical, as I was a cruise ship entertainer before losing my job when I found out I had diabetes.”
Readers are also introduced to the character of Jack Hart, whose star quality begins to wane when his naughty secrets are splashed across the nationals.
The e-book version of the book is also bundled with exclusive access to a bespoke “gossip” website, where readers can fully immerse themselves in the #spotted world.
