Starring soap stars Steven Arnold and Rachael Wood, '˜The Charlie Chaplin Story' is the heart-warming and powerful musical tale of a true icon of cinema.

Sunday, 26th June 2016, 10:00 am

The show is heading for the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on Wednesday, July 6, as part of a nationwide tour.

Touching and funny, the musical play follows Chaplin from his modest and troubled childhood in the slums of Victoria London to his success in Hollywood.

The show focuses on Chaplin’s relationship with his mother who was forced to put her sons into the workhouse, and his early show business career as a Vaudeville artist.

In 1910, Chaplin went to the US as a featured player with the Fred Karno Repertoire Company. He scored an immediate hit with American audiences and two years later he was offered a motion picture contract.

Success on the ‘silent screen’ in the early years of Hollywood followed soon after and ambitious Chaplin soon had his eye on directing his own films.

The show ends with ‘The Kid’ in 1921, the breakthrough film that made Chaplin a household name and a child star of Jackie Coogan.

‘The Charlie Chaplin Story’ has been put together by the creative team of award-winning writer Stuart Price and composer Jake Field.

Steven Arnold, best-known for his role as Ashley Peacock in ‘Coronation Street’, stars as Chaplin’s brother and he is joined on stage by Emmerdale’s Rachael Wood.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tel: 01422 351158.
