The theatre broke the news with a post on their social media platforms.

The post read: "After careful consideration, and in light of the most recent guidelines issued by the UK Government, it is with enormous regret that we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 2020/21 pantomime, Jack & The Beanstalk. However we are not saying goodbye completely, oh no we’re not! Jack & The Beanstalk will be back for our Christmas season in 2021-22, once again starring comic Josh Benson and hilarious Dame Adam Stafford.

"We're pleased to confirm that your existing tickets will be automatically transferred to the comparable performance next year in the same seats that you had originally booked. For example if you have booked tickets for Christmas Eve this year you will be transferred to Christmas Eve next year. Our Box Office team will be contacting all ticket holders by email in early September with details of your rescheduled date and time - please watch out for our emails.

"We hope you can join us and we look forward to welcoming you back to Victoria Theatre again soon."

Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in Calderdale, the theatre is yet to reopen for public performances.

Tim Fagan, Theatres Manager commented: “The Victoria Theatre pantomime is a highlight of Calderdale’s festive calendar and a popular Christmas tradition for many families throughout Halifax and beyond. This decision will come as a great disappointment for many, as it is to myself and the team here at the theatre. However, we have made this decision after carefully assessing the various options open to us and our Pantomime Producers, Imagine Theatre. Postponing until next year feels like the most sensible and safest option and next year’s show Jack & The Beanstalk will be the biggest panto of them all!”
