Wyke’s Pennine ARL Division Two game with Eastmoor was switched to the Wakefield club’s ground due to Wyke’s pitch being flooded.
Two quick Eastmoor tries saw them go ahead early, but the game settled down and it was 10-0 at half time. Ian Wormald and Marc Goodwin were strong for Wyke as was Alec Williams and Tim Stones.
The second half was dominated by Wyke, who came out far more aggressive and the Eastmoor pack didn’t have much to give back.
Wormald crossed from a trademark angled run and he also landed the conversion.
Eastmoor scored shortly after, but the introduction of Gary Worley saw the Wyke attack take on a new dimension, Brett Grey scoring a fine try.
Eastmoor scored twice in five minutes before the game ended to take the win, 26-10.
Wyke coach Warren Pitman said: “We have a lot of juniors who are stepping into the first team earlier than I would have liked, but they are giving a really good account of themselves and are a credit to themselves and their coaches.”
Wyke’s man of the match award was shared between Alec Williams, Scott Watson and Jordan Payton.
