Siddal’s position of comfort at the top of the National Conference League was surrendered in a 30-28 defeat at Lock Lane on Saturday.
Lacking several regulars, they were beaten by a late try and now lead by only two points from Leigh Miners Rangers and three from Wath Brow Hornets. Both those teams won.
It was a third Premier defeat of the season for Gareth Greenwood’s side - all by narrow margins and away to mid-table opponents.
Lock Lane led 6-4 after a tight first half but the points flowed after the break with leading scorer Shaun Garrod finishing with a hat-trick for the visitors.
Half-back partner Kyle Ackroyd and prop George Ambler got the other tries and Joel MacFarlane kicked four goals but the visitors came up just short.
Siddal host fourth=placed Rochdale Mayfield on Saturday and have six games left before the play-offs.
Elland lost 68-4 at home to leaders Thatto Heath in Division One.
It was 28-0 at the break and scrum half Stephen Booth scored the hosts’ consolation try.
Elland’s next game is at home to second-placed Skirlaugh on Saturday week.
