Panthers next on the agenda

This Saturday Brighouse Rangers welcome Huddersfield side Newsome Panthers to Russell Way (2.00).

With Newsome also in good form, coach Gary Barnett will want his players to play to the best of their abilities and put last week’s loss to Birkenshaw behind them.

“It would have been good to have two training sessions this week to get us back on track, but with Tuesday night’s bonfire taking place it means we will have to put a really hard session in on Thursday (tonight),” said chairman Dave Barnes.

“It’s a game of second v third and we know Newsome will come here bouncing with confidence after drawing with league leaders Illingworth two weeks ago.

“But it’s up to us as a squad to go straight at them, and show how good a side we are also.

“It is always a tough game against Newsome, but we’d like to think we can take the two points having home advantage.

“I suppose you could say whoever wins this one, will fancy themselves for promotion from Championship One even at this early stage.”

Richard Flynn takes Rangers’ second team over to Barnsley to face Hoyland Vikings (2.00) for a Division Five encounter in buoyant mood after last week’s win against Garforth.

“The lads are buzzing again, and we can’t wait to get over there,”said Flynn.

“Hoyland have been struggling of late.”
