Calderdale’s three National Conference League side - Siddal, Elland and Ovenden - all won on a soggy Saturday.

Siddal stay two points ahead of West Hull at the top of the Premier Division after a hard-fought 20-18 home win over a tough East Leeds side.

With second row Danny Williams to the fore, they were sitting pretty when they led 14-0 at the break but then had to withstand a second half fightback from their visitors.

Fullback Scott Caley, winger Steve Hope and replacement Tom Garratt got the home tries. Gareth Blackburn, playing at stand off in the absence of Shaun Garrod, kicked three goals and Chris Brooks one.

Elland are second in Division Two after a 40-6 romp away to Castleford Panthers.

Karl Fairbank’s side had lost narrowly to Premier outfit Wigan St Patricks in the cup a week earlier and they surged into a 28-0 interval lead yesterday before a more even second half.

Prop Cayci Pearson had a 16-point haul from two tries and four goals.

The other try scorers were wingers Joe Worthington and James Marshall, centre Chris Dyson, loose forward Jack Fairbank and replacement Oliver Fairbank.

Scrum half Phil Taylor kicked two goals.

Ovenden produced a remarkable turnaround in the space of a week against Waterhead in the same division.

Beaten 50-28 at Oldham in the cup the previous Saturday, they battered the same opponents 50-0 at Four Fields yesterday.

After a fairly tight first half, in which they took a 10-0 lead, Ovenden ran away with the contest.

There were two tries apiece for fullback Niall Brady, winger Shaun Smith and the returning Jason Dodd plus one each for home man of the match Martin Mullen in the centre, winger Arran Varley and second row Matthew Turner.

Brady added seven goals for a personal match tally of 22 points.
