Ready for next level

AWARDS were handed out to Brighouse Old Boys players at the annual presentation evening at Lightcliffe Golf Club.

Chairman Doug Tait thanked all the players who had helped build the perimeter fence around their Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School pitch, which has since been passed by the West Yorkshire League as suitable for the next level of games as rated by the FA at its Pyramid level seven.

He also thanked the Old Pond, Hove Edge, for hospitality throughout the season.

Halifax Town’s commercial manager Pete Stajic presented the awards and gave a Halifax Town shirt signed by all the players after their Evo-Stik Premier League title winning season.

The Clubman of the Year award went to Neil Fitzjohn, who plays for the West Yorkshire League Reserves, where this past season he also took up the role of assistant manager.

He also regularly puts his UEFA ‘B’ coaching licence to good effect by taking the mid-week training sessions.

Young Player of the Year was Dan Addy, who had an excellent first year in open age football, coming to the club from Brighouse Juniors.

He played regularly for the West Yorkshire Reserves, but has also made appearances for the Halifax League side and towards the end of the season made his first team debut against Hartshead.

Each manager, Phil Garbe (First Team), Julian Prior (West Yorks Reserves), and Richard Rothwell (Halifax League) presented their respective player awards.

First Team Player of Year, captain James Fletcher; Players’ Player, Rob Kenny; West Yorkshire Reserve Team Player of Year, Jason Armstrong; Players’ Player, Adam Williams; Halifax League Team Player of Year, Graham Tait, Players’ Player, Luke Mc.Namara; Young Player of Year, Dan Addy.

The West Yorkshire League has announced that it has been provisionally accepted into the seventh tier of the FA’s Pyramid system. The only two other leagues in the North East Region to have this status are Sheffield and Humber.

The League has already confirmed that Brighouse Old Boys’ facilities are up to seventh tier standard.

Brighouse Old Boys are having a change in their management structure this season, with Julian Prior leaving his role as West Yorks Reserve team manager to join first team manager Phil Garbe as his assistant.

Previous assistant first team manager Chris Wadsworth will take the position as West Yorkshire Reserves team manager where Neil Fitzjohn will remain as his assistant.

Richard Rothwell will continue as Halifax League team manager.

The Old Boys have now begun pre-season training on the 3G pitch at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe School every Tuesday and Thursday until mid-August at 6 45pm.

Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend.
