YORKSHIRE captain Andrew Gale today hailed Brian Close as “an inspiration”.
Gale paid tribute to the ex-Yorkshire skipper, who has died at the age of 84.
Gale led Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship titles on Saturday - the first time the club have achieved that feat since Close led them to a hat-trick of Championships in the 1960s.

And Gale said the former England all-rounder had been a tremendous influence throughout his career.
“Brian Close was a legend,” said Gale.
“It’s a sad day to see him pass away.
“He’s been around at Headingley throughout my career, and he always spoke to the lads and has been an inspiration.
“We’re proud to win back-to-back Championships, but it’s a sad day for Yorkshire cricket.”
The Yorkshire players will wear black armbands today in their penultimate Championship game of the season against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
