Buttershaw are despatched

Lightcliffe U11s (288-2) beat Buttershaw (257-2) by 31 runs

Lightcliffe U11s finally achieved their second Bradford Junior League South Division victory of the season, defeating Buttershaw.

The visitors batted first but generally struggled against tight bowling from Ben Harrison, Callum Heath, Oliver Gary, Bradley Atkinson, Toby Morley and Dylan Hill, who all impressed.

Lightcliffe had this game sewn up by the third batting pair as Morley, Atkinson and Hill all hit 12 not out, and Joe Pyrah and Harrison both got into the teens in a strong batting display.

A Lightcliffe side short of three regulars took on a full-strength Spen team and came off second best as the visitors triumphed by 45 runs to go top of the table.

Bowling first Lightcliffe were made to suffer early on as old boy Henry Smith raced to his 30 in only four overs and Spen reached 49 off the first five overs and were 83-0 when at the halfway mark.

Lightcliffe then seized the initiative and, with three overs left, had Spen at 120-4. But 44 runs were plundered from those remaining 18 deliveries to leave Spen on 164-5.

Opening pair Declan Raistrick and Matthew Denman put on 52 in nine overs before Raistrick was stumped.

Denman reached his 30, but when Jude Roberts was run out, Lightcliffe were 86-2 after 13 overs..

Owen Thomas (22) followed as did Ed Wardle, Reece Smith and Anthony Elwood to make it 108-6, Lightcliffe eventually fallingshort at 119-8.
