MORLEY have denied debutants Scholes the JCT600 Bradford League’s Division Two crown.
A 123-run victory over Idle gave Morley the title and an immediate return to the top flight.
Scholes have been in hot pursuit all season but they will happily settle for a promotion place.
Morley declared on 206-7 in the 44th over and with news of rain advancing from the south got stuck in to bowl out Idle for 83.
Scholes had a nine-wicket win over strugglers Windhill, who were bowled out for 62 in 33.1 overs. Muhammed Yasin scored 37 for Windhill as Scholes captain James Stansfield led the attack with 5-21, followed by useful stints from Joseph Duffy (2-16 in 10), Yasin Ali (1-19 in 12) and Daniel Cross (1-2 in 2.5 overs).
Tony Thorpe (16no), Kasir Maroof (21) and Atif Zaidi (13no) saw them to their target in 10 overs. Remarkably, no extras conceded by either side.
Scholes’ 2nd XI came up against an eight-man Windhill side and soon bowled them out for 27 in nine overs.
Richard West recorded figures of 4.5 overs, four maidens and four wickets for no runs. Ben Cross took 3-25 in five overs. Scholes knocked off the required runs in 5.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Rain saved Hartshead Moor from what looked like being a crushing defeat against Gomersal.
The Highmoor Lane side were on 80-5 in reply to 199 when the umpires whipped off the bails due to the rain.
Adam Greenwood top scored for Gomersal with 69. Extras were the next highest with 27. Andrew Parratt took 3-52, captain Will Smith had 2-42 in 10 and George Saville 2-26 in seven.
Hartshead overseas player Fahad Ul-haq was trapped leg before on 45 as both sides claimed eight points.
Gomersal’s second string wrapped up an eight-wicket win after dismissing Hartshead Moor for 111 in 34.3 overs.
Laurence Brooke hit 41 for Hartshead and No 5 Stuart McDermott made an unbeaten 19 off 53 balls.
Benjamin Ford claimed 5-43 and Gomersal won in 24.4 overs with George Senior making 61 not out.
