Scholes CC continue to push their claims for promotion to Division One of the Bradford League following another emphatic win last Saturday, this time over near neighbours Spen Victoria,
Yasir Ali with 7-26, Chris Jackson (2-23) and skipper James Stansfield (1-12) did the damage as they had Spen all out for 70 in just 28.4 overs, with Oliver Davison almost scoring half the total with a valiant 30.
The ever-consistent Tony Thorpe (35 not out) and Kasir Maroof (32) took their side to a comfortable nine-wicket victory that kept them firmly in second place behind Morley, who are also flying and now have a nine-point lead after thrashing Brighouse.
Spen Victoria’s second string put up a much better showing in the batting department as they mustered 169 in 39.5 overs thanks to Thomas Loker (43), David Simpson (42) and Sam Burns (39). Nick Firth was Scholes’s top performer with the ball taking 3-19.
However, when it came to the reply Scholes only lost one wicket in achieving their total as Robert Smith hit an unbeaten century (101 no) and Andrew Spencer played a holding role to score 51 not out.
