Brighouse SC swept the board in Saturday’s Novice Teams Gala at Halifax Pool.

They joined Todmorden, Sowerby Bridge and Halifax in competing to be top girls and boys teams and overall winners of the Crowther Trophy

Brighouse happily handed back the three awards they won last year but were determined to sit them back on the shelf at Brighouse Pool.

Melanie Diwncyz set the ball rolling in the under 10s freestyle while youngsters Oliver Blamires and Anneka Barmby gave great performances to win their heats at butterfly and backstroke. Rachel Hobson was in great form throughout, gaining valuable points.

The under 12 girls freestyle team of Gypsy Walker, Alfie Walker, Eva Knott and Thea Jones made great progress and took second.

The boys under 14 medley team of Finbar Flaherty, Eoin Flaherty, Ben Bottomley and Gabriel Midgley were fabulous in winning their event.

In the open section, Richard ‘The Tank’ Squire helped the team to second.

Jordan Hare shone in his freestyle and contributed well in the Team Cannon event, in which he joined Chloe Squire, Julia Millington, Ben Bottomley, Evan Clark, Rachel Hobson, Amelia Clough and Martin Squire. They narrowly missed first place.

News that Brighouse had come top in everything made coaches Ivor Clayton and Brian Smart extremely proud.
