Barkisland comfortably took the honours in their first Huddersfield League derby match of the season against Elland yesterday.
Alex Scholefield dismissed four of Elland’s top five and the Hullen Edge hosts needed 45 from Siraj Sajid and 34 from Nishant Desai to reach 172 for seven off their 50 overs.
A 122-run opening stand between Alex Kaye (62) and Jamie Summerscales (65), both former players for SBCI in the Halifax League, put Barkisland firmly in control and young Kiwi Tim Seifert (35 no) helped wrap up an eight-wicket win.
Todmorden were unable to make it a hat-trick of wins at the start of their Lancashire League season when beaten by 110 runs at Haslingden yesterday.
They suffered at the hands of home skipper Alex Coleman, who hit exactly 100 before falling in the final over to Martin Harlow.
Professional Burton de Wett contributed 51 to a total of 218 for six with his Tod counterpart Tim Van der Gugten taking three for 46.
Tod only mustered 108 in reply with 21 from Elliott Gilford and 20 from Simon Newbitt.
Walsden picked up a useful Central Lancashire League win at Heywood in a reduced overs contest. Jake Hooson (39) and skipper James Rawlinson (30) gave them a solid start after they had been sent in and Matthew Dawson’s 51 contributed to a total of 169 for eight off 32 overs.
Heywood made a solid enough start but Sri Lankan Umesh Karunaratne bowled tightly at one end and Josh Gale (four for 32) did damage at the other as Heywood were limited to 128 for seven.
